Salt is termed as lavana in sanskrit. On maragaseersha pournami i.e. 06.12.2014, the salt is to be given as dana to poor which will get back good complexion to one and all in the family.
After completing the nithya karmanushtana, fill salt (rock salt/kallu uppu/rati uppu) in a vessel and keep it in the puja room and have sankalpa as under:
Maargaseersha purnamaayaam sundara rupatva siddyartham lavana daanam karishye. Keep some tulasi leaves and dakshina in the vessel and do prarthana as
Rasaanaamagrajam sreshtam lavanam balavardhanam, tasmaadasya pradaanena atassantimparayachhame.
Maargaseersha purnima maha punya kaale mana saha kutumbasya sadaa sundara rupasaya siddayartham idam lavanam sapaatram sampradade namama
By saying the above give the vessel to any poor. Apart from this we can also give salt for cooking purposes to needy i.e. poor people or to ashrams where destitute and spastic children are taken care of.
This will save us from acid throws and other harasments in the society which is prevalent nowadays.
